Software Engineer - VTL development
SEPATON is seeking a Software Development Engineer to help maintain the market leadership of our Virtual Tape Library (VTL) product. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven strength in Software Design & Development, matched by self motivation, the ability to innovate, and dedication to product quality. A focus on product performance, user friendliness, and reliability are highly desired.
Responsibilities:
- Provide performance enhancements to the VTL.
- Develop interfaces between the VTL and various applications.
- Perform root cause analysis of SQA and customer issues, and provide solutions for them.
- Contribute to the VTL documentation and testability efforts.
Requirements:
- BSCS or equivalent educational background.
- 2+ years experience in software development, with strong C/C++ coding skills.
- Linux kernel development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver new products into the market.
- Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Experience:
- Experience with embedded and/or real-time software development, Unix/Linux internals.
- Storage protocols – SCSI, FC, iSCSI
- Knowledge of tape and disk storage technologies.
- Tape library backup applications such as Net Backup, TSM, Legato.
- Knowledge of software development infrastructure: version control, build systems, makefiles, etc.
- Scripting languages

Field Escalation Manager
Position Summary:
The Field Escalation Manager will work very closely together with Engineering and Customer Service Organization to help to shorten time-to-resolution of customer product issues. In this role the manager will facilitate the plan of action to formulate plausible theories in tracking issues until problem resolution. The successful incumbent will be responsible for monitoring all customer issues in a clear, concise accurate manner and gather all relevant customer information. The Manager will be responsible to compile Root Cause Analysis reports, following defect resolution plan.
This role is key role the Manager will provide the Engineering Management team information and responsive information and reliable resolution of the most critical and highest impact problems for SEPATON’s corporate customers.
Core Responsibilities
Receive escalated, technically complex mission critical or politically hot customer issues, and maintain ownership of issue management until resolved completely. Represent SEPATON and communicate with corporate customers and internal management team regarding technically complex escalated problems identified in software products, and manage relationships with those customers. Frequently, these problems will not only be technically complex, but will be politically charged situations requiring the highest level of customer skill.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Solve highly complex level of escalated problems, involving broad, in-depth product knowledge
- Acquire & coordinate resources from other groups as needed to resolve customer issues
- Manage hot site issues by setting customer expectations, devising action plans, being available 24x7, and professionally communicating to all parties involved.
- Lead triage meetings to share knowledge with other engineers and develop customer solutions efficiently
- Represent SEPATON professionally in on-site situations
- Act as a lead, mentor, and role model on a team of engineers; provide direction to others, review solutions
- Develop technical training to other team members
- Maintain strong working knowledge of pre-release products and take ownership for product improvement in key product areas.
- Report software bugs and customer suggestions
- The ideal candidate will have a BS/CS and MS/CS and a minimum of 10 years product support experience or the equivalent in work experience.
- Candidates must also have strong customer service, accurate and logical problem solving, and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Programming and debugging skills are required, preferably in C/C++, as well as the ability to read and analyze network traces as a Systems Engineer is required.
- Knowledge and experience supporting tape backup and disaster recovery, storage, and networking solutions that include:
- Network Attached Storage (NAS), Serial ATA (SATA), and Storage Area Networks (SAN) infrastructure components
- Backup and recovery
- Disaster recovery
- Current with at least one of the following enterprise backup and recovery applications is a must: Veritas Netbackup and or IBM Tivoli Storage Mgr

File System Engineer
The Core Engineering team at SEPATON is seeking an exceptional development engineer with a passion for solving complex problems to work on state-of-the-art file system technologies for our Virtual Tape Library product.
Working on a core technology, you will have a major impact on the design and implementation of future file system designs. The ideal candidate is a proactive and hardworking software engineer who wants to take ownership and responsibility for developing best-of-class file system features. The ideal candidate will combine the ability to see and communicate big-picture issues, yet also have a passion for detail. We have a small, nimble team which fosters innovation, rapid product iteration, teamwork, and feature delivery.
Responsibilities
- Work with a highly skilled engineering team in the design, implementation and support of future file system technologies
- Maintenance of existing file system
- Design, develop, debug, and test
- Problem / performance analysis and debugging
- Drive product features and functional/industry specifications
- Work with cross functional teams to support developer and product
Required Experience:
- Proven ability to work on a fast-paced and diverse development team
- In-depth knowledge of file system internals
- A genuine passion for operating system technology
- MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience/skills
- Demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities and troubleshooting skills
- Industry exposure and knowledge of filesystems and UNIX kernel internals
- Highly professional, with the ability to multitask and deliver solid work on tight schedules

- Linux 2.4/2.6 development
